I matter because I like art, animals and my friends.

I matter because... I am the future. My words and actions will make the future bright. The future is mine to fill with love.

I matter because I enjoy the finer things in life. I like things that look really fancy so I drew my mom and I very fancy, like in a Grand Ball. I'm not like most kids. I like to dress up in fancy suits and like things that look very elegant. I like to dress up nice.

I matter because ... GOD made all of us. My art piece represents God's hands holding the world. And all the little dots on the continents are people. The reason that the dots are different colors is because there's not just one color of skin. And we all matter because God loves us.

In the world right now, there is a lot of fighting. This piece shows two friends that are different but alike. They matter because they both want the world to be a better place. A world that is peaceful and equal.

I chose to draw this because my name, Nell, means light. I matter because I bring light to a dark day.

How my art work relates to the theme, "I matter because..." is I matter to my family. To represent that is I drew a picture of my family and put two quotes about it. At the top I put how it relates to the theme.

I make people happy. This picture is happy too.

I matter because I want to spread awareness about black lives. My picture shows a girl holding a sign that says black lives matter because equality is important.

My drawing relates to the theme because I show many reasons why I'm important and why I matter. In my opinion, I think it's a really good practice to reflect on why you matter because even if you feel like you don't matter, you still make a lot of change in this world, even if you don't realize it!

"WE" Matter

I matter because I have a voice. My project ties into the theme because it shows why I and my voice matters. I made this piece of visual art to show I will not stay quiet and silence is violence. The girl holding up the sign in the middle of the photography is me at a Black Lives Matter protest and the pictures surrounding her are pictures I took. Everyone has a voice to speak up about what is right and against what is wrong. I matter because I have a voice.

This piece of artwork was inspired by a special locket my grandma gave me. This relates to the theme because the closed locket does not show anything special about myself. However my opened locket drawing does. Looking below the closed locket, you see the opened locket and all the reasons why I matter. I chose an eye shape because I wanted other people to see through my eyes. Materials used: Multi-media paper, sketching pencil, blending stick, colored pencils, thin marker, hot glue, and printed pictures decoupaged on Saran Wrap.

#59MiddleVisualArts.jpg

I chose to replace "I" with "WE" because I only matter if we all matter. We all matter for the reasons that I put on my artwork.

My artwork is the earth with hearts to surround it. The way it relates to the theme is how much love and acceptance in the earth that makes me feel like I matter for so many reasons.

This drawing shows how everyone has different parts of them that matter for different reasons. It also shows that you don't have to be perfect to matter.

I matter because...this statement was difficult to answer in the middle of a pandemic and racial injustices in the news. I wanted to UNMASK my truth. I matter because I am a strong woman, beautiful inside and out, who is proud to be white and black. I matter because I am a leader and role model with an unbreakable voice that promotes positivity and love. I matter because I was taught not to see people by the color of their skin but for the person within. Why do I matter the most? It's because I know YOU matter.

I drew and watercolored a piece named, "Eleven Doodles". This piece represents the theme "I matter because..." it shows just how many amazing qualities one person can have. It started off as a blank piece of paper but progressed into an amazing piece of art. Just like you and me. Each doodle isn't perfect or pretty because just like people not every quality or personality is going to be perfect. All that matters is the likable and fun qualities that make an amazing person or piece of art.

My work portrays how women are stereotyped as unintelligent, incapable to handle situations, or unable to make change compared to men. Women and their voice matter, just as much as anyone else's and shouldn't be shunned based on their gender. At a point in our lives, women feel downcasted because they feel as if they don't matter. Equality is important.
