The Clothing Exchange offers gently used clothing and shoes to those within the SMSD boundaries. All items are clean. Donations are made possible by SMSD residents. Racks are sorted by item and by size. There are themed racks, as well...Prom dresses, dance dresses, special events, Holiday wear, etc... All are welcome.

The Clothing Exchange is open each Monday when SMSD schools are in session.
Morning shopping hours are MONDAY - 9:00-11:00 am.
Evening shopping hours are on the second Monday of each month, (no morning hours) - from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Identification for shopping:
Please be prepared to show ID proving either residency or enrollment. (Driver’s license, utility bill, report card, etc. Make sure either your address or the school name is listed. It is required for entry into the shopping area.)
FREE socks & underwear for SMSD Students:
Each student enrolled in the Shawnee Mission School District, may receive five pairs of socks and five pairs of underwear each semester. (August-Dec / Jan-May).
Identification for socks & underwear:
Please provide proof of enrollment for each student in a Shawnee Mission School District Program. This may include one of the following: Report Card, Student ID card, show smartphone Skyward info, a letter from the school nurse, secretary, principal or program such as ELL or Head Start. Proof of enrollment must show a family member name and school or program name.
The Clothing Exchange is a non-profit organization.
Shawnee Mission Area Council PTA is affiliated with Kansas PTA and the National PTA.
Volunteer at the Clothing Exchange
The Clothing Exchange is made possible with SMSD PTA volunteers, in addition to monetary donations. It is staffed 100%, by volunteer parents and families within our district, and each PTA Unit in the district donates money to be used to buy new underwear and socks.

Each PTA Unit has an assigned volunteer day; however, anyone is welcome to volunteer more often! Elementary schools are assigned from 8:30-11:00am. Middle school and High school are assigned evening shifts from 4:30-7:00pm. (See link to schedule of dates above.)
Tips for volunteering:
Arrive 30 minutes before shopping area opens.
Elementary schools - send 4 volunteers.
Middle School - 4 volunteers. If sending students, please ensure one adult for every 2 students.
High School - send 4 volunteers .
It is the responsibility of the volunteers to make arrangements for substitutes.

Donate to the Clothing Exchange
Consider bringing your outgrown or unused items to donate, adopting us with additional new items; new socks, underwear, hats, gloves, and/or pj’s., or hosting a clothing drive....or mitten drive...or coat drive...(boots are requested, too). Please ensure all items are clean and ready to wear! Donations may be taken to the Center on Mondays only, 8:00am-4:30pm and left outside the building, by the Clothing Center doors (back of building, southeast gym doors)
