The lyrics of this song are about being treated like an object because you're a girl, but that the singer has a voice and she is going to use it. The choreography in the beginning is meant to show powerlessness, and the scarf over my mouth symbolizes society silencing me. After I take off the scarf and my hair falls out of it's bun the movements become more carefree and powerful. I am more than just a pretty girl. I am strong, smart, brave, and kind. I have a voice and I'm going to use it. I matter.

Girls matter because we are not speechless and never will be. We have a right to be heard and have our voices count. This song and dance represent all the girls that dare to dream big.

I chose this song because even though I am a little kid I can still make a difference. I need to live my life doing big things. During Covid and quarantine life got harder and not as much fun. I still want to laugh and dance and be happy. My choreography and dance relate to the theme because no matter how small or young I am, I still matter. Every person in the world matters and can make good things happen. You can help cheer people up and do good even during hard times.

We made this video on September 27th. Originally we made it for our kindergarten teacher, who was going through some hard times and we also made it for our Great Grandma, who is in the hospital with stomach issues. My siblings and I: Violet, Eloise, and Liam Langford, all danced in this video while the camera was going. I put it together as a film. My siblings go to Briarwood Elementary School and are in 2nd grade. We have been having 'dance parties' in our basement ever since I can remember and during COVID when we were stuck in the house, we would dance for hours at a time. The dance doesn't really have choreography, only the first segment is. The purpose of this video is to add some light to this dark world. 'Because I'm happy and you can clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth'.

My work relates to the overall theme because I express myself a lot through dance and it makes me feel like myself. Dance is a place I go to when I need to express my feelings through a gentle way that won't harm anyone. Dance makes me feel like I matter because I am good at something. Although I am not the best, I feel free and happy when I am dancing. It helps me feel special in my own way and get my emotions out there. The dance that I chose to share is a dance that is kinda complicated, requires a lot of flexibility, and it is a very intricate piece. I was going for a dramatic kinda sad dance. Creating the dance has helped me realize that I matter because I can do something special while expressing myself through it.

I picked the song "Be Nice" because it's about how we should embrace our differences and try our best to be happy. I think we could all use an uplifting tap dance to get us through the hardships of 2020

My work relates to the theme because it illustrates that everyone matters, sometimes there just needs to be a change in perspective. Also feeling powerful as in the dance makes one feel like they matter.
