VOTE
DARIUS BEAN
CHRISTA MCAULIFFE elemENTARY
I walk with my family and we've passed this sign many times. When I thought about the theme "I matter because..." I decided the perfect photo was a kid and the vote sign. you see, I am a kid. One day I will be old enough to vote. And my vote will matter!

I matter because I am going to be a Biologist, and I am going to make an impact on the world and that my friend is why I Walker took a baby musk turtle in to rehabilitate and take care of for the rest of his tiny turtle life. TINY BUT WORTHY
erik GREGORY
MILL CREEK ELEMENTARY
I took this picture because I believe that all creatures matter including a tiny roly-poly. This picture also shows the importance of plants and the life cycle and that they matter too. Even something tiny is worthy.
THE LITTLE THINGS
GRACE CHALFIE
RHEIN BENNINGHOVEN ELEM.
I chose this picture because during this time there is a lot of stress and my hamster makes me really happy. She matters to me a lot because the smallest thing can make a big difference and my hamster always impacts my day in a good way.

UNDER THE SURFACE
AVA CARROLL
INDIAN HILLS MS
I took this photograph of my sister (Carmen) because I saw the moment that was there and knew it had to be captured. I matter because I can see the goodness and beauty in others. I titled this "Under the Surface" because I see under the surface of others and always to try to think about the water they are swimming in. She is upside down because she looks at the world from a different angle that is her own. This photo recognizes there is much under the surface: I matter because I seek it.

I MATTER
kennedY WOOLF
MILL CREEK ELEMENTARY
I matter because I clean up litter near waterways to help keep our water sources safe. Some ways I help are picking up trash, testing the water for harmful chemicals, and cleaning the leaves out of the storm drains to prevent clogging and contamination. Children are the future of the world and I want the world to be clean and safe for everyone for a long time.
This is a picture of my brothers. I matter because I am a sister. I balance things between my brothers. I am in the middle like the football. I am the only girl and the middle child. I love my brothers and my brothers love me. That is why I matter.
LAKESIDE FLOWERS

HIGHLANDS elementary
I matter because I notice the small things in life. Instead of passing by this scene, I captured the moment through photography. I notice the way the water moves as the wind blows it, the scattered geese in the background, how the sun casts its reflection in the water and across the grass, and the way the flowers move as they dance in the wind. Life is too short to not notice things. I matter because I DO notice them.
FRIENDS
JACK VICKERS
INDIAN WOODS MS
So I say that friends shape who you are, they are what influence how you act and they're also like family. They are always there for you, when you're feeling down they help you get back up, and they do everything with you. The friends you make are some of the most important decisions of your life.

Kansas City has one of the highest rates of police killings in the country. This monument of Abraham Lincoln and his son Tad can be found at the City Hall downtown. It is now decorated with signs and posters that demand our Police Department be held accountable for the violence that has been inflicted on our citizens. Hundreds of protesters camped out outside the City Hall in peaceful protest on the weekend of October 10th and many still remain. These protesters share their voice in the fight against police brutality. I was able to go see the monument myself and learn more about the movement. I matter because I can be a part in the change for better by sharing my voice and supporting others in the fight for equality and justice.
My work you can see some of my face and the other is in the dark. That to me is like showing that you may think you know someone but you don't know them truly. My work relates to the theme I matter because I am more than a girl. More than a person. I believe that you are more than just the outside. I matter because I have my own opinions, but lastly I matter because I think everyone should be treated equally and loved the same no matter what background, race, color or looks.
I have a reusable water bottle. I use it everyday. I refill my bottle rather than use disposable plastic one. I matter to the environment because I am conscientious.
